Ice & Water Shield and Underlayments

Ice & Water Shield is a water proof membrane that provides protection against ice back up, and against shingle failure or shingle blow off. It is the solution for winning the battle against water penetration in your roof’s most vulnerable places. Ice & Water Shield is a composite material of asphalt polymers, formed into a rolled sheet. The asphalt makes it vapor-tight, and the polymers make the asphalt elastic and sticky. This protective barrier is able to stretch and seal around nails driven through it.

The Ontario Building Code specifies there must be a minimum three feet of Ice & Water at the eave. If you have more than a 2′ overhang you should have a 2nd row of Ice & Water Shield, meaning 6′.

Synthetic Underlayment replaces and outperforms traditional Felt Paper. Synthetic polymer-based underlayment is designed for use on roof decks as a water-resistant layer beneath asphalt roofing shingles, this scrim-reinforced underlayment includes a special top surface treatment that provides excellent slip resistance, even when wet. It’s large roll size – 4 feet wide x 250 feet long – helps speed application.
